hello everyone do you want to be successful in this course let me tell you how well to start you might not have as much experience with this type of course because Dr wayhott uses something called a flipped classroom method and essentially you learn and reflect before class and then during class is where you discuss with your classmates about like what you've learned talking about experiences and it's great because there is no traditional lecture here's a better breakdown though so every week there are these things called outputs and there's typically two of them and they look like this and they always have some kind of like reading or article some form of material as well as follow-up questions but I do want to mention that it's not like you're skimming an article and then you're looking for an answer within the article it's more about reading the article and then critically engaging with it and kind of using your own experiences and reflections to better understand the topic these outputs are really important for shaping like a foundation of knowledge regarding this topic and it's important because you're going to be talking about them in class and so if you don't really do the outputs and you show up to class you're not going to have like a pre like foundation of knowledge to kind of reflect off of when you're discussing about these topics and now the outputs may seem a little lengthy but you are allowed to use AI at times which is really helpful when you're trying to learn effectively and quickly but just because you're using AI doesn't mean that you can you know like not try as hard once outputs are turned in that's when class is for discussion dr uh will typically critique or like give feedback based on like your outputs for like the first maybe 20 minutes of class and then the rest of the time is really just like a deep conversation with your classmates about like the topics you learned in the output as well as like topics that also correlate with what you learned in the output basically you don't sit there for an hour and a half listening to a boring lecture the entire time you get to just talk a lot and really like connect with people in your class and like kind of learn from their experiences as well and I think that was what was really interesting for me because I would like reflect like with my experiences and then I would talk with someone in class during the discussions and they'd bring out like some other points and I'd be like wow like I didn't think about that before and I think that was like my favorite part of the course like just engaging with other people so if you want to succeed here are three things that I think are very important number one is to actually do the outputs as best you can and I say as best you can because you know anyone can kind of just like rush the output just like write whatever but when you really show that you try that's when like you get recognition but you also learn more about yourself and be like hey like I didn't know this this and that i can use that and kind of learn about my experiences using this topic and it becomes a lot more interesting trust me number two is to speak up in class and this one's really important when no one else is speaking and the reason why it's important is well obviously not only does it show the professor that you're willing to engage but it also forces people around you to speak and you know talk about their own experiences or like question you about based on your experiences and like it always brings in new discussions new topics and new interests and that's what's most interesting to me at least and lastly is to go beyond and when I mean go beyond I mean bring in new sources bring in new ideas connect ideas this is vital for success in this course i would say the most important thing for success in this course now there is also a midterm and two final assessments but I'm not really going to go over them because they're pretty straightforward all I'm going to say is don't procrastinate pretty obvious but you need to understand what you're writing before you're going to write it now what won't make you successful is if you never turn on your camera i mean come on you can't really connect with people if your camera's constantly off this also ties into not participating i mean if you don't participate your grade is going to drastically change since it's such a big portion of the grade and you're also not going to learn anything so and then lastly are the half-hearted outputs i mean come on the the whole purpose of the output is to learn and make something out of it so if you're not actually trying that then you're not actually fulfilling what the output's purpose is there for so anyways this class is amazing if you want to learn you want to grow otherwise if you're just looking for a class to you know just do assignments and barely get by this class isn't for you so that is it from me um I hope you do take this course and take a lot out of it just as I have and yeah I hope you have a good semester
