This video presents a tier list ranking various coffee grinders based on Lance Hedrick's personal experience. The ranking considers sound, taste, workflow, aesthetics, speed, flexibility, grind range, and price. The grinders are graded from A (best) to D (worst), with a brief explanation for each ranking.
The grinders that received the highest ranking (A grade) were the Fembook A68, Weber Workshops EG-1, Timemore Sculptor 064S, Baratza Encore ESP, Zerno Z1, Gevi Grindmaster, Wug2 83A, Kafatek Monolith Max 2, and Turin DF 83V. The reasons varied for each, but generally involved a combination of excellent performance in both espresso and filter coffee, good build quality, ease of use, and value for price. The Weber Workshops EG-1 and Kafatek Monolith Max 2, while excellent, were noted as expensive. The Baratza Encore ESP was highly rated for its low cost and excellent features.
Lance Hedrick placed the Niche Zero and the Turin SD40 in the C grade tier. He noted that the Niche Zero excelled at espresso but was poor at filter coffee, while the SD40 performed adequately in both, but not exceptionally well in either. He ultimately preferred the taste of the Turin SD40 to the Niche Zero, but recognized the strengths and weaknesses of both.
