This video explains the scientific concepts of hygral fatigue and moisture overload in hair, detailing their causes, symptoms, and preventative measures. It aims to educate viewers on how excessive moisture can damage hair strands, leading to issues like increased porosity and loss of structural integrity, and provides practical solutions to maintain healthy hair.
what's good everybody and thank you for tuning in to today's video we're gonna be discussing a rather um sensitive and scary topic but in the light-hearted way with me your host and your main girl milk now with today's video we are going to be addressing the concerns the conflict and the corruption that moisturizing will cause to your hair now as we know moisture hydration and water is a girl's best friend however there is such thing as too much and the damage caused to strands will create an irreversible condition that can only be fix luckily we can prevent moisture overload and high growth fatigue to be scientific okay with proper hair care practices and by treating the hair for what it means and that's exactly what I'm gonna share with you how to do in today's video so without further ado let's get into it you may be sitting there like hmm well you have now raised a lot of questions what are the signs that I have moisture overload or hydro fatigue what is causing the damage so I can not do that what even is the damage being caused and how can I prevent this from even happening so we don't have to get to that point for my scissors well to answer all these questions I am bringing along a very knowledgeable friend of mine um Mel let's get into it shall we hi I am science if you Mel we're gonna get actual factual on what is hydro fatigue and why does it differ from overly moisturize to care don't confuse the two they are related high growth fatigue refers to the damage being done to the hair strand when you get it wet and dry when it goes from wet to dry the process a wet to dry and then wet to dry and wet to dry this repeated cycle of wetting and drying which is also swelling and shrinking of the hair shaft which is also lifting of the hair cuticle can cause cracks in the hair cube now there's holes in your roof now I say that because we often refer to the hair cuticle the cutes tickle as the roof over the house which is the hair strand which protects all of the contents on the inside and also gives the hair its outer appearance so having cracks and holes in your hair strand will lead to an increase in hair porosity it is also the reason why the longer our hair gets the drier our ends get and it's simply because they've been on your hair for so long they've been through the most they've been through so many cycles of that wet to dry process and over time it increases the porosity on your ends now you may be wondering why is this a problem well studies such as the Journal of cosmetic science show that untreated healthy hair can absorb 30% of its weight and swells 16% of its size and stretch 2% of its length all when it is wet this naturally will lead to the cuticle stretching out when it is wet and then not laying down flat when the hair dries that is what creates the holes and that is what creates porosity now that's all in healthy hair if your hair is already porous well it can absorb a lot more moisture and a lot quicker and so it can easily become over moisturized the difference between overly moisturized hair and bad girl fatigue is hyper fatigue happens over time and overly moisturize hair that can happen very quickly it can sneak up on you it can even happen just overnight moisture overload will occur with perpetual overnights deep conditioning and or deep conditioning longer than the recommended use and also by solely using moisturizing products that lack any strengthening proteins so these types of practices will create hair that is limp lacking structure and feels gummy when it is wet the hair will simply not feel like itself anymore it will not look like itself anymore it will be tired or in other words fatigue and it is important to note that since porosity is caused by essentially holes in your cuticle and that there is no way to repair the hairs cuticle once it's been damaged and lost that this condition is I don't make up the rules it's science you listen to me listen to Mel and you know hopefully this doesn't happen am i right okay so now we know what Hydra fatigue and over moisturization of the hair are and what they are doing let's talk about how to prevent all of that from even happening and some solutions because that's over here for the first thing you can and should be doing to prevent all these things from happening is pre treating the hair now this is a practice that is also referred to as pre pooling which other context sounds a little disturbing but it's essentially pre treating the hair before you are washing it studies have shown that the fiber swelling of the hair was reduced when the hair was pre treated with things like coconut oil and mineral oil now reduced fiber swelling also imply that damage from hydro fatigue was also reduced now you can make this a DIY experiment of yours you can use a blend of coconut oil and any other oils you want to add I've done it before I found it's a little bit messy and personally I prefer to use products that are already made and bundled up for me and my favorite pre shampoo treatment is the herbal hair mask from the innate life because yes one it is a lot less messy it's in a container and I can just easily pump it into my hand and - it is packed with so many beneficial ingredients so I'm getting way more benefits than just one so I'll apply a pre-poo treatment if I can a few hours before I wash my hair or even the night before washing my hair these pre-poo and oil treatments go on either dry hair or just slightly damp in hair now I apply it directly onto my dry hair I usually section off my hair and I'll apply it section by section and you can see as I'm applying it to my hair it is instantly softening and detangling my hair and that's because some of the key ingredients in this product are slippery elm bark and marshmallow root which both act as an all-natural detangler so this is helping to revive the hair and already giving it some moisturizing properties there's also a special herb in here called Brahmi which is an ayurvedic herb which helps to cope the hair follicles with a layer of protection which is going to help prevent split ends this is especially beneficial if you have porous hair already so someone like me someone with lightened blonde hair any kind of hair that has been chemically treated or even if it has been severely heat damaged even using a deep conditioner with heat no this isn't necessarily a bad thing but using heat does accelerate the deep conditioning process and it does help to further penetrate the mask into your hair if you have low porosity hair this is going to be great for you because it does allow you to get more of the products however if you have normal to high porosity hair you really want to limit the amount of time that you are using heat and steaming your hair because you're only going to increase that porosity get way too much the hair and the hair is gonna become so soft it will be too soft and if you're not sure what porosity you are then check out my porosity video will link it here it is very important to reduce the amount of water that is passing in and out of your strands because at the end of the day it's just going to plop right out and it's going to eventually cause more damage your hair is already susceptible to so we want to stop it in its tracks but only really on my hair this is a hair mask I will apply something separately onto my scalp while I'm doing this because hey might not kill two birds with one stone and this is the scalp treatment for normal to dry scalp from the innate life as well because it comes at a tub I always pour it in the lid so I can dip my fingers into that so I'm not spreading any bacteria from my scalp and into the jar and then once I am done applying all over my scalp make sure you give it a good massage now clip my hair away if I'm going to bed I will put a shower cap over it and cover all of that with my bonnet and go to sleep or I'll just keep it in a bun for a few hours as long as I possibly can before I give this a good wash and today I chose to use the Maui Moisture curl quench line because I'm honestly testing it out to see how much I liked it and I did get all of the scalp treatment out of my hair as well as get a good cleanse on my ends but my my hair felt nice and soft when it's pre treated you really feel the difference your hair feel so much silkier you will also limit the amount of damage being done to your hair then if you were just washing it now see those are all the benefits of pre treating the hair but pretreat the hair all you want if you are doing this next thing you are still causing over moisturization to your hair and damage damage damage so to prevent hydro fatigue my next tip is to of course as I've said it before you really want to prevent how much your hair is getting wet how much it is going from wet to dry and also how long it is staying wet and you know just not drowning the hair so as a solution - all of that is you know after we followed the instructions and we have rinsed out our conditioner you need protein but everybody needs protein even if you are the lowest of the lowest of porosity and you say your hair allows no moisture in you want protein in your hair typically in my routine after I've left my conditioner in for the appropriate amount of time following the instructions I rinse out my rinse out conditioner and I instantly apply a little bit of a cream leave-in I am using the bounce curl moisture balance leave-in which is a moisture base and no protein leave-in just add a little bit extra moisture to my porous and to try hair but after that very importantly I coat my hair and I seal all of that moisture in with a pH balance and a protein type of leavin I'm using the leave-in conditioner from the innate life now this has rice protein in it it has bamboo extract the bamboo extract in this contain silica which is a collagen protein so that is going to be strengthening for my hair as well as the oak proteins and the plant keratin these are all going to help to balance out all of the moisture in my hair to help add strengthening which is going to help enhance the curl as well and give it its shape too much moisture will make your curl lose its shape but the balance of protein will help to aid in its structure after a couple spritzes of the leave-in conditioner I like to put a little bit of the neroli hair primer also from the innate life this is also a very lightweight spray but it does have a little bit of an apple cider vinegar extract and this is gonna help to seal everything in promote smoothness of the hair and give the hair strength and shine if you have hard water in your house coming out of your faucets and your showerheads you want to be balancing that out because hard water does have a higher alkalinity this will already cause your hair to feel more dry to be more dull and to feel rougher so you want to help to seal that in as much as possible and by balancing the pH with a product like this that contains apple cider vinegar at the right amount you are going to get a perfect balance of pH and protein and moisture boom and I proceeded to style here with styling products now for today's wash day I used some Aussie products I have been experimenting with a lot of drugstore brands and so I used the crow cream I used my Denman brush to style I applied this Aussie mousse before I had diffused my hair and then after diffusing now that my hair is dry that is when you want to lock everything in when your hair is moisturized and hydrated this is when you want to use an oil today I'm using the innate life rose hair elixir and take a few drops of this and I'm using this to scrunch out the cast in my hair this is going to help to prevent you from re washing and re wetting your hair because it is getting dry throughout the week you want to seal everything in with a finishing product like an oil or a serum the final products in your wash day routine should always be emollients and occlusive that are going to help prevent from water loss from your hair which will reduce the need to let water back in so that you don't have the oats in and then the in Mendeley out and the process of creating high growth fatigue and some other solutions that you made by beneficial to prevent having to wash your hair more frequently is by one protecting it overnight by using a bun it if it is cold outside or if you're exposing your hair to some unfavorable weather conditions try to protect your hair and if you do have an oily scalp and you find that your roots get kind of greasy throughout the day so that's one of the reasons why you like to shampoo try using a dry shampoo so that you don't have to use as much water and maybe get a little creative with some hairstyles that help cover greasy foods hello inspiration and all that being said I hope you learned something from today's video there was a whole lot to be said and a whole lot of tips and tricks that I do hope you use please use them you will thank me it will take time if your hair is damaged to get better you want to make sure that you are treating your needs
